How many of you get the urge to instantly follow accounts on Instagram when you see something interesting? Not sure about you, but I do it all the time- especially when it’s about food!
Besides just eating, I love seeing beautiful pictures of food. But that’s not all – most of these food accounts share recipes, reviews and recommended dining spots, making it easier for fellow foodies. Since Instagram is flooded with accounts dedicated to food and restaurant reviews, it might be challenging to find reliable tips, and to know who to even follow. To help you out with that, I’ve provided a list of some of the accounts I haunt:
1. @foodjournalist
This should be your go-to account if you’re searching for in-depth evaluations of underappreciated Chinese, Malay, and other traditional restaurants to visit in KL. The admin publishes three to four reviews per month, and their 20,000+ hungry followers appear to enjoy the material. What I appreciate most about the posts is that people discuss more than simply meal quality; they also discuss parking accessibility, cleanliness, and design. You may anticipate a wonderfully wholesome encounter because of all the additional little elements that go into your eating experience!
2. @eatdrinkklcom
The distinctive 21 collage structure of an Eat Drink KL.com post makes it easy to identify. A leader in the community since 2009, it blogs and posts on social media about the newest and coolest spots in KL. You’ve come to the perfect place if you’re a sucker for good deals because they also highlight trendy promos and seasonal offers.
With its precisely placed flatlays and well-lit closeups, Fat Food Beast’s grid is immensely enjoyable to look at. From the finest omakase experiences to kopitiam dishes, the account encompasses an amazing variety of cuisines. Additionally, each stream is accompanied by witty, informative captions.
The Klang Valley’s many regions are neatly divided into sections for simple viewing, making it possible to find the next meal quickly and easily. As the account’s creators start to travel again, you can occasionally find food from other countries.
4. @tastydigs
This Instagram account, which is run by Kamilia Tahani, showcases a variety of hip restaurants, café fare, and interior photos of visually-appealing eateries throughout the city. Along with listing her orders and sharing her honest opinions, Tahani also offers her own recommendations to her audience. She primarily focuses on KL in her posts, but she often includes fans in her excursions, most recently during a tour of Italy. Oh, she even has her own Spotify acount!
5. @klfoodhunter
Similar to Eat Drink KL.com, this group-run account is immediately recognisable because of its distinctive 41 grid Instagram photo structure. They regularly publish assessments of the town’s bars, boba tea shops, hot pots, and family-friendly attractions. Every article includes the restaurants’ hours and best-seller picks, so they kinda perform the taste-testing for you! Also, I like how they collage their images. So, while scrolling, instead of seeing just 1 food pic, you see many and that tempts you to find out more.
6. @eatnowkl
They make the claim to be a complete guide to the best meals in Malaysia. We couldn’t agree more, actually. Take it from their more than 30,000 followers – this is a highly trustworthy handle, with carefully chosen recommendations that never fail. Additionally, they group their story highlights into sections for breakfast, lunch, fine dining, cuisine and festive deals. You can check out their blog to know more.
One of the most active and discerning gastronomic writers out there is Yi Jun Loh, who was most recently recognized as an Empowering Educator on The World’s 50 Best’s 50 Next 2022 list. You can rely on Loh’s opinions on food to be in-depth, trustworthy, and refreshingly honest, because he lives at popular food website Food52 and is a Cambridge University graduate. He also posts his recipes on his Instagram and website, which is an enormously rewarding archive of his own cuisine. As a Malaysian-Chinese, he incorporates Asian flavours and cooking methods into his dishes and has a tonne of Asian recipes and remixes.
If you enjoy exploring recipes at home, you’ll enjoy Marisa Mokhzani’s account. Mokhzani updates and revises some of her favourite recipes using only the finest ingredients. To make sure you can follow along and receive the precise amounts of ingredients for your own tries, each recipe comes with a video. She draws inspiration from her extensive travels and employs her sophisticated palate to create hearty dishes that are enhanced versions of her favourite dishes from places like Hoppers in London and the Magnolia Bakery in New York City.
9. @timeoutkl
You ought to be familiar with this well-known brand by now – unless you’re living in a cave. Time Out has been providing excellent material for numerous locations for a very long time. What makes them unique is that their content is not simply limited to cuisine. You can browse upcoming performances and events, hot spots for drinks and bars, and, of course, the best new restaurants in your city to get recommendations for all kinds of entertaining and interesting things to do.
10. @kenhuntsfood
When it comes to quick trips with friends or weekend vacations, KL residents frequently choose Penang first. This city is a melting pot of art, culture, and history, and it enjoys a pleasant climate all year round. It’s also well recognised for its flavourful street cuisine. Ken has your back if you’re a stranger to this culinary jungle! You’ll want to visit these affordable, family-friendly restaurants as soon as you read his excellent ratings, which he provides on a regular basis. I particularly appreciate that he includes each place’s address and phone number so you can make appointments well in advance! You can check out Ken’s blog to read more.
11. @hungryfoodiekl
Hungry Foodie Kl showcases an extensive food scene in Kuala Lumpur. They provide their followers with thorough reviews (emojis included) and in-depth vlogs of meals. These videos contain what was ordered, costs, and emoji star ratings, so you know exactly what you’re in for. Along with cuisine, it covers other aspects of leisure in the city, such as staycations that let you continue your gourmet experiences into the night in one of KL’s vibrant neighbourhoods. Do check out their TikTok account for more interesting content.
12. @trishates
Instagram user Trisha Toh’s feed is a visual feast. Toh’s account is a clear reflection of her expertise as a culinary stylist and art director who knows what makes a dish successful or unsuccessful. And I really appreciate her work, because she manages my food Instagram accounts. She has also done styling for other well-known names in the restaurant and lodging business, like Marriott Bonvoy and Huckleberry. She even has a blog of her own with articles about lifestyle, advertisements, and more.
They certainly are adorable! I’m a huge fan of this couple. On a carefully curated, beautiful page, they provide updates about their travels, adventures, and, of course, culinary explorations. They cover hotels and other lodging options in a number of cities, so follow them if you’re looking for more than just straightforward restaurant evaluations. And I do enjoy looking at their gorgeous, drool-inducing photographs.
14. @klfoodie
Of COURSE this has to be on the list. KL Foodie is a must-read blog for all foodies, because they guide you to the best restaurants, cafes and food in KL. Apart from food, KL Foodie also shares content on things to do around KL, upcoming events and products on sale. To keep yourself updated on the latest food news, you can always count on KL Foodie! Check out their blog for more content.
15. @ceddyornot
I don’t really follow influencers, but if the account has something to do with food, you bet I would! Ceddy Ang, popularly known as a food blogger and TikToker, is someone you should follow if you want quality content. What I love about Ceddy is that he doesn’t sugarcoat reviews and he states what’s on his mind. I also love his expressions – the way he talks and moves about in his videos make it so interesting that you would want to check out that spot for yourself. Follow Ceddy on Instagram and TikTok for lots and lots of food reviews.
16. @liafa62

I actually found her on TikTok. To me, her Instagram account is not really helpful, so I just stick to following her on TikTok. Similar to Ceddy, Liana is also a food blogger. From Western to Thai and other cuisines, Liana brings viewers on a food tour through her TikTok videos. She’s a lovely presenter, with a soothing voice and she always looks super excited in all her videos. She seems to leave positive remarks everywhere she goes. So, it’s kinda hard to know what to expect if I myself to the same spot. Besides food, Liana does reviews on activities around KL such as hot air balloon rides and rollerblade skating. Check out Liana’s interesting content on TikTok.
