‘Malaysia’s Top 30’ elevates the local food and beverage industry, together with its key business partners, to market their outlets in an annual award event. The pandemic put the F&B industry in dire straits, just like the rest of the world. But now that we are in the endemic stage, it’s time for these industries to get back on track and offer their unique and distinctive experiences to customers. In this series of awards, Malaysia’s Top 30 Bar Awards was the first to be presented this year – and Lipstiq had a front-row seat at the ceremony and party held at Mantra Bar & Lounge, Bangsar, last Thursday (16th June, 2022). The award is held to recognise the top bars in Malaysia this year, as well as to pin down the top beer bar.
Alvin Sinclair, who is the founder of the Malaysia’s Top 30 award programme, said that “Celebrating the country’s top cocktail and beer bars, along with bartenders, is a (way) to raise the standards and recognise the bar and beverage services in the country, which gain prominence in the local as well as international markets to provide Malaysian bars and bartending talents the opportunity”.
During the inaugural event, the Top 30 Bar Awards was presented by Chivas Regal, along with other partners such as Martell, Jameson, Heineken, Guinness, Perrier, Fiji Water and others. The 2022 award programme will commence with the nominations of 220 bars listed throughout Peninsular Malaysia, which is then to be shortlisted to 100 bars. A group of selected juries within the industry will be evaluating the bars to narrow the list down further 50 bars, before coming up with the full list of Top 30 bars which will be presented at the final gala award at the end of the year.
“The idea of Malaysian’s top 30 Bar Awards is to create continuity even after the awards,” added Alvin. “We created a cocktail series by which all 30 bars will participate in this campaign to create the Top 30 best cocktails together with best beer bars which will be showcased next year” said Alvin.
Alvin also continued to say that a multiple Whiskey Masterclasses will be held towards the end of the year to celebrate this outstanding achievement with the Main Gala Night. Additionally, they are also focusing on raising funds for their charity partner, Yayasan Chow Kit, with the aim of raising RM15,000.
So, what are the benefits of participating in this programme? Well, the key advantages are that the bars will be published in the annual print magazine which will be distributed to 100 different locations, including hotel cafes, bars and restaurants. What’s even cooler is that 2 bartenders from each establishment will get free training from Malaysia’s Top 30 partnership with Bar World of Tomorrow.
At the launch event, Malaysia’s Top 30 also took the opportunity to reveal their next series, which is Malaysia’s Top 30 Food & Drink Awards, Sabah and Sarawak edition. Jude Benjamin Lisa, the chairman organizer, said the programme is expected to kick off in October. The East Malaysia series will partner with leading media titles like Borneo Talk (Sarawak) and Breeze (Sabah).
All in all, Lipstiq had a great night, with drinks and music, along with the super cool bartenders that served with their pretty dope moves.
