You’ve witnessed every TikTok eyeliner trend imaginable, including graphic liner, double-winged eyeliner, and even rhinestone liner. It’s apparent that TikTok has captured the zeitgeist of what’s hot, particularly in the beauty world. Makeup aficionados continue to discover new methods to enhance every trend, which is commendable given that creativity is perhaps not in some of our vocabularies.
But can their creativity in pushing the boundaries of makeup trends be excessive? Of course! Others may argue that there are no limitations in the realm of beauty. However, you must admit that certain makeup trends should not be considered a trend at all. For instance, there’s a new eyeliner trend that’s budding within MakeupTok that have people both gobsmacked and intrigued: transparent graphic liner!
Yes, you read that correctly: transparent graphic liner – which begs the question, “How can any makeup be transparent?”. For this budding makeup trend, the only makeup product used is concealer – which begs another question, “What makes this an eyeliner trend?”. Well, to answer that question, take a look at the viral video on TikTok by beauty creator, May Akhtar, who introduced the idea of the transparent graphic liner trend.
@maytahmi Transparent liner??! Yes! #graphicliner #editorialmakeup #simplemakeup
As you can see, May uses a concealer – a lighter concealer – to outline her eyes, mimicking a graphic liner and blends the perimeters to make it seamless, as she finishes off her look with the rest of her makeup routine. Her video alone had mixed reactions – with some completely adoring the trend:
“Wait, cuz it’s giving.”
“I knew my hyperpigmentation would come in handy one day.”
“SO GOOD AS ALWAYS.”
While others didn’t necessarily vibe with this emerging makeup trend by May:
“It’s cute… but I feel like pushing the bottom up to the waterline would make this look less like a ski mask sunburn.”
“Imagine like getting sunburned like this idk intrusive thought.”
“Goggle tan lines, but make it fashion.”
It’s certainly a new way of pushing the traditional graphic liner, but it’s a hard NO for us as well. The stark difference of colour from the concealer to the foundation makes this eye look very jarring to look at. Plus, it does look like you’ve got sunburned. But, if you’re into that avant-garde sunburn look, give this trend a go. Other beauty creators on TikTok have already given this look a try!
