HOLD IT! Hold that thought in your head. Before you curse the sh’t out of me, lemme clarify why I think it wouldn’t be bad if 90’s fashion makes a comeback (actually, some of it already has, and it’s better than before). I’m not talking saggy jeans, bucket hats and fanny packs (not that I have anything against them), but we’re looking more into everyday outfit looks inspired by the 90’s that can be styled more fabulously with today’s fashion trends. First, have a look at what I’ve got for you, and then tell me what you think.
CARDIGANS
Come on ya’ll, this one’s a classic “I can’t leave my house without it” item from your closet. Don’t deny it. You probably said this often when you were younger. How would I know? Sis, I’ve been there, done that! I have to admit, I carried a cardigan with me everywhere I went. There’s nothing more comfy than throwing on a cardigan when you’re cold or even wearing it fashionably to your liking. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but cardigans are being worn more and more these days. It’s just that, they are styled differently, according to your liking.
Cropped cardigans and tie-front cardigans were so popular back in the 90’s – you’d see them worn by many movie actors back then. Cardigans are so cool, they add a casual but chic style to whatever you’re wearing. If you want to wear a cardigan now, make it look trendy. A cropped cardigan with high-waisted jeans will look fabulous.
SHEER DRESSES
Sheer dresses were such a fashion craze back in the ’90s. When you talk about sheer dresses, you will definitely be reminded of Kate Moss’s iconic sheer dress from 1993. It was and forever will be an iconic piece in fashion history. And guess what? It looks like they are making a comeback. Sheer dresses are elegant. Don’t fight me on that, bruh. Sheer dresses are sexy, they provide a glimpse of your body while making your figure stand out. The thing about sheer dresses is that they’re versatile. Because they are sheer, they can literally be paired with anything. You can be as creative as you want when you wear sheer dresses and style them however you like.
What? Wondering where in the world are you going to wear sheer dresses to? Sweetheart, there are no rules for fashion – they can be worn at anytime and anyplace. From formal attire to partying – there’s a sheer dress for everything. The best part is you can accessorise that dress with other fashion trends.
WIDE-LEG PANTS/ BOOT-CUT JEANS
Oh please! Like you’ve never worn this one before. It was such a trend back in the ’90s and even in the early 2000s. Back then, wide-legged pants or boot-cut jeans were usually paired with crop tops or tucked-in shirts. Today, they are even worn with blazers to create that professional office wear look. Wearing wide-legged pants adds a certain flare to your outfit, especially an outfit that is boring. If you are wearing a boring shirt and don’t know how to spice it up, throw on some wide-legged jeans and see how your outfits transforms in the blink of an eye.
THICK HEADBANDS AND CLAW CLIPS
I LOOOVE thick headbands and claw clips. Something about them makes me nostalgic, and my inner child just leaps out. For all of you who think that thick headbands and claw clips are lame, you just don’t know how to style them. These accessories were such a trend back in the ’90s. From children to teenage girls all the way to women, every ’90s female had one of these 2 accessories on her head. Headbands can elevate a look and claw clips can make you look put together. Don’t believe me? Look at the pictures below. Lemme explain darling: even if you don’t look your best or your outfit is just whack that day, what makes you look decent – or might I say, human – is actually your hair. When your hair is neat, trust me, your whole outfit will make sense. And sometimes, you need accessories to make your hair look good.
These days, people love the slick back ponytails that tear your scalp apart. I mean, they look good, but why do that when you can just accessories with pieces like this from the ’90s? Try it and soon enough you will have a collection of headbands and claw clips.
CORSET DRESSES
Okay! Wear this and freaking feel like a princess, honey! Corset dresses and tops were a huge fashion must-have back in the ’90s. This is pure vintage. For you girls out there who love putting together a vintage outfit, you need one of these in your closet and only then will your collection be complete. These corset dresses, which you see today in period dramas and princess movies, symbolise ’90s fashion. But you know what – with a modern spin and recreation, corset dresses are just absolutely stunning. See it for yourself, girl! I know you want one.
WEDGE HEELS
I bet every mom has this in her shoe collection. I had one too, growing up. In fact, when you start wearing heels you would usually purchase a wedged heel first. And honestly, they are so beautiful when paired with dresses and skirts, even jeans. Wedge heels are such a ’90s thing, they seriously need to come back. There are outfits that would look great with a wedge heel more than a stiletto. And wedge heels are so much better for the feet cause they’re not as painful as stilettos.
STATEMENT EARRINGS
The ’90s was the time of heavy, studded earrings and statement jewellery. Every celebrity from the ’90s had some sort of huge stone jewellery on them. Jewellery can power-up your look, and it looks like statement earrings are making a comeback. Jennifer Lopez and Sofia Vergara are two celebs that often rock a good statement jewellery, pretty much inspired by the ’90s.
See – it isn’t that bad for ’90s fashion to resurface. If anything, they come back better than ever!
