If you’ve been anticipating/bought tickets/losing your mind over Beauty and the Beast, we’ve got some super horrible news for you. The opening of the highly anticipated live-action Disney film has been indefinitely postponed.
The local release date for Beauty and the Beast, originally March 16, will be delayed due to an “internal review”, film distributor The Walt Disney Co (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. said in an email. No further reasons were stated but so far, the movie has been taken down from the showtime listings at major cinema chains.
Starring Emma Watson as Belle, Le Fou by Josh Gad and Luke Evans as Gaston, Beauty and the Beast is a live-action version of Disney’s classic animated feature. The movie sparked controversy after its director Bill Condon said in Attitude magazine that the character of Le Fou would have a “nice exclusively gay moment” in the movie.
So far, Russia has imposed restrictions on the film, with children under the age of 16 banned from watching it. Emma Watson also made headlines recently due to her contentious cover shoot on Vanity Fair.
We’re completely heartbroken over the news of Beauty and the Beast’s release delay, but such is life. Here’s to hoping that the movie gets released here very very soon. *crosses fingers*
