Despite the brief drizzle as the minutes edged towards 4 o clock, people clutching their sarongs close to their chest or some tucked under their arm were hurrying quickly towards the assembly point of where the Keretapi Sarong event would kick off. According to the official Keretapi Sarong page, the designated meet up place would be at KFC KL Sentral. An estimated 500 people turned up for the event and here’s our account of what happened.
The crowd assembling at KFC KL Sentral.
We were given instructions on where to assemble, our stops to get off and what to do. We were then divided into smaller groups for easier coordination.
Heading towards the train platform to our first destination: Pasar Seni
The train ride and curious onlookers
Singing traditional Malay songs such as Rasa Sayang at the second stop: Kampung Baru!
“No worries, I ain’t the next Hang”
Next we headed to Ampang Park where we bumped into a Storm Trooper!
The crowd started to come together and build up at Ampang Park.
Finally it’s off to the next stop, Dato’ Keramat before heading towards our final destination: KLCC
Our youngest participant at the event who drew plenty of ooohs and awwwws from the girls.
The final meetup point was at the KLCC park by the pond where everyone grouped together for a massive group picture!
All in all it was an amazing experience and for this writer who had never participated in a flashmob prior to the Keretapi Sarong event, it certainly was an eyeopening and refreshing experience to see Malaysians from all walks of life especially the young ones coming together and sharing their experiences. Sarongs for the win! For more pictures, visit our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/lipstiqdotcom.
