Gratitude: the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness. Oh yes, our lives need a little bit – no, scratch that – a huge amount of this, especially during these difficult times. Happiness is subjective. And to be honest, everyone defines and practices their own ‘’style’’ of gratitude differently. What matters most is how we choose to accept every part of happiness as our rightful share of life – and subsequently express gratitude for it.
To properly express your sense of gratitude, there are certain acts that you can incorporate into your daily life – and that will also increase your level of happiness. Below, we suggest a few habits that will help you live your best life – and all it takes is just five minutes.
1. Make your bed
Your bed is your sanctuary. You spent most of your alone time on it. So make sure to make the most of it. And we know you’ve heard this more than once, but making your bed in the morning gives you a sense of accomplishment at the start of your day. It’s a little victory for us.
2. Check on your people
Friendly reminder to check in on your people – family, friends, loved ones. Simply shooting an “I miss you, let’s catch up soon,” text is enough to make someone’s day. You don’t have to get into details. It doesn’t take much to show someone you’re thinking about them. This practice of mindfulness will not only keep you updated with your close circle, but you’ll be able to vent and banter during any convo. It’s a great way to share your ups and downs and to have someone hold you accountable. If you don’t have time in the morning, you can save this one for whenever it fits into your schedule.
3. Practice affirmations
Write down “I am” affirmations in your Law of Attraction Journal. After each affirmation, say what you wrote out loud. By doing this you are slowing down your thoughts, focusing on one at a time, and processing what you say differently. Almost as if you’re manifesting your affirmation in your mind, leaving you mentally prepared for the tasks you have to do to achieve that affirmation.
4. Five-minute stretch and tone
We’ve talked about the importance of incorporating a five-minute sweat session here. This will leave you feeling confident and strong. Don’t forget to thank your body for all that it does for you.
