Nothing says “a good Friday night” like eating loads of junk food while binging on some good chick-flicks. We’ve all had enough of watching the same chick flicks over and over again (*cough* Mean Girls *cough*).
It’s time we were reintroduced to some classic chick-flicks that we may have long forgotten about. Fortunately, we’ve done the legwork for you and curated a list of the best underrated chick-flicks for you to gorge on through the night.
Confessions Of A Shopaholic
A film that many of us gals can relate to – in love with shopping and ending up broke (basically the story of our lives). This film is for you if you enjoy a budding romance, shopping galore, and learning about finances – all at the same time. While watching this film, I adored every piece of clothing worn by Isla’s Fisher and thought to myself, “one day…”.
Bring It On Franchise
Bring It On movies were among my all-time favourite films, but I hardly hear people talk about them now – except for the first Bring It On movie, which is understandable, since it’s iconic. But we need to add some more cheering to our list!
In It To Win It
Bring It On: In It To Win It follows two rival cheerleading groups from the East and West Coasts, who go head to head in a national cheering competition set at a theme park. When I tell you how OBSESSED I am with this movie, I’m not kidding. The amount of time I spent watching this movie because of the drama, the dances, and the romance is enough to last a lifetime. Not to mention, the last number that the cheer team performs with the roller-coaster twist – ICONIC! Would watch it a million times more – and so should you.
All Or Nothing
Things take a turn for the worse when a popular high school cheerleader transfers to a new school. Now she must work her way up from the bottom to prove herself worthy of a spot on a new cheer squad that will compete against her old school crew for a once in a lifetime chance to be on a TV show. Bring It On: All Or Nothing stars Hayden Panettiere and Solange as cheerleaders – and guest star Rihanna. You surely don’t want to miss watching the catty fights, an unexpected romance blooming, and a whole lot of mid-riffs.
Fight To The Finish
We love a standard concept with a twist! The story of an underdog cheerleading group that is a MUST-watch, with a touch of rom-com, which is an added bonus. Bring It On: Fight To The Finish is the story of Lina, a fierce cheerleader whose world is turned upside down when her widowed mother remarries. She faces a series of problems at her new school, ranging from meeting Brooke, the queen bee of the top all-star cheer squad; to adjusting to her new life in Malibu with a new sister. All of this while attempting to join the cheerleading group in hopes of becoming an All-Star cheer squad member.
Just My Luck
I’m not one to favour romantic movies, but this one should be hyped TF up, because why am I not hearing about this movie from people? Just My Luck stars Lindsay Lohan and the ever charming Chris Pine. Do I need to say more? That should be enough for you to run to watch this fantastic cinematic masterpiece. The movie follows Ashley, who has a lucky charm right under her fingertips, and meets bad luck Jake at a party – and soon learns that her good luck has been switched with his bad fortune. One thing leads to another, and just like any romantic movie, Jake soon falls in love with her and tries to win her now bad luck-ridden heart.
It’s funny, witty, adorable and just *chef’s kiss*.
Sydney White
If you love Snow White, then you will surely love this romantic-comedy retelling, starring Amanda Bynes. The story follows Sydney White, who’s been welcomed into a sorority from which she is soon dismissed. She is immediately taken in by seven socially-awkward men from another sorority on a rainy night. She soon begins to defy the status quo by taking on the campus queen in a popularity contest, with the support of her new companions.
If that has not persuaded you into watching it, then you should know that the prince charming in the movie is irresistible.
House Bunny
I’m pretty sure everyone, who is anyone, has watched this iconic film – but for some reason, it’s not being talked about enough. You’re telling me that a playboy bunny exiled from her playboy house and quickly transforms into the head of a sorority house full of awkward ladies, who subsequently glow up isn’t something to be hyped about? Fairytales and lies!
The storyline is already epic, and it should be on your weekend movie binge list RIGHT NOW!
John Tucker Must Die
After seeing this film, I became a feminist – enough said. A movie about a man who breaks three teenage girls’ hearts, prompting them to plan vengeance by making him endure the misery of a break-up when he falls in love with a lady they fixed him up with. Genius! Now tell me – why do we need another feminist film when we already have this masterpiece?
