2021 introduced us to so many new trends and products that are either mind-blowingly good or just utterly bizarre. Don’t get me started on food trends, because there is a plethora of them and most emerged from TikTok! Let’s see Lipstiq’s top 10 favourite TikTok food trends that emerged in 2021.
McDonald’s Coffee Hack
Let’s start with something sweet and easy. So, sometime this year, there was a trend of mixing McDonald’s iced coffee with their delicious vanilla ice-cream as the creamer. It sounds crazy, I know, but works deliciously well!
@therealfaithallison I’ve literally gotten this 5 more times since that fiasco #coffee #mcdonalds #foodtrend #icedcoffee
Ramen Carbonara
Now, we all might be familiar with carbonara – but what about ramen carbonara? It’s just using different pasta… with noodles. I have personally tried it with Shin Ramyun and Maggi Kari (not both at the same time, obvi) and it tastes incredible! It’s so easy to make too! Literally all you would need is a noodle pack and its seasoning, egg, garlic and kewpie mayo.

Cheese Ramen
Another ramen hack that we should all try. As much as we love the classic, we need to upgrade our ramen skills and this hack is a way to do it. It’s creamy like a carbonara, but super easy to make!

Pasta Chips
Pasta chips had us in its chokehold this year and everyone was at its mercy. Pretty sure the pasta aisle was empty with how many joined in the trend of pasta chips. You have to admit, it’s pretty simple to make. But I, for one, will go to my usual chip bags. If you’re interested in making it, here’s a guide on how to make pasta chips.

Dalgona
This year, everybody was obsessed with Squid Game. It was a thrilling show and was praised by loads of people for its depiction of capitalism through playing children’s game. But, why go into depth about the show, when you can make Dalgona. No, not dalgona coffee – Dalgona candy. Since the show aired, everyone wanted to try making Dalgona, dubbing it as the Dalgona Challenge, and see if they could eat the candy without snapping the stamped picture.
@mic.h_h_ if you make it right it shouldnt taste bad😭 #dalgona #dalgonacandy #tutorial #squidgame #오징어게임 #cooking
Pickled Garlic & Sriracha
Probably the oddest out of the list – but everybody seemed to love it! The trend became huge when a TikToker named Lala was eating her favourite pickled garlic and sriracha snack and her followers became curious as to how it tastes. Ever since then, everybody started scouring their local groceries for pickled garlic. It might leave you with stinky breath, but I would assume it’s worth the try?

Crispy Rice Sushi
I love me some sushi, but I have yet to try the crispy rice sushi. It’s probably the most complicated dish out of them all – but if you’re accustomed to making sushi rice, then this dish will potentially be your absolute fave!
@foodsofnyc I made some more crispy rice! 😍 #GiftOfGame #HappyHolidays #foodsofnyc #fyp #xyzbca
Tortilla Hack
I know you know the utter feeling of disappointment when you bite into your tortilla wrap and all the filling inside just falls down the other end. Not a great feeling, which is why this tortilla hack is great to get the most of your delicious fillings! Just one tortilla wrap with four different tasty fillings will make your meal completely mess-free.
@simplefood4you Had to try this🤩#tortillatrend#trend#tiktoktrend#trending#recipe#cooking#foodie#foodtiktok#mat#food#fördigfördigsverige#fyp
Baked Feta Pasta
I’ve never tasted feta cheese before, but this trend had me itching to go to my nearest local grocery store and buying it. The viral baked feta pasta was all over TikTok and it’s like you can’t get away from it. Every 2 to 3 scrolls, you would see someone make a rendition of it. It seems super easy too, since all the necessary ingredients are in one baking dish and you just pop it in the oven.
@thehungerdiaries Tried the viral #fetapasta by @feelgoodfoodie + it was 🤌🏻 #easyrecipe #bakedfeta #bakedfetapasta #foodtiktok #foodie #foryou #fyp #feta #pasta
Emily Mariko’s Salmon Rice
This viral food trend even had me sucked into it. Nobody could escape the grip that Emily Mariko had on us with her Salmon Rice recipe, but I have to admit, it’s actually pretty good. It’s super simple and easy to make. Of course, salmon fillet is on the more expensive side, but it’s well worth the try!
@emilymariko Extra good today
