Now that we’ve passed the half-year mark, it’s yet another reminder to ourselves and the community to keep sustainability in mind while living our day-to-day life. In conjunction with plastic-free July, the winner of Mrs Malaysia World 2019/2020, Priyaa Simmi continues to campaign an eco-friendly living to business owners as well as the community by implementing plastic-free practices in their activities.
Plastic-free July is a global initiative to bring awareness and fight against plastic pollution, which will result to a cleaner environment, oceans, rivers, and a healthier community.
In order to truly understand the adverse effect a single-use plastic has on the environment and the future, educating the local communities is key. Therefore, Priyaa will be head spearing these efforts by collaborating with Zero Waste Malaysia to conduct workshops to enlighten business owners how they can benefit by going eco-friendly while making conscious business decisions.

“I hope that these businesses will reap the benefits of an eco-friendly environment and continue their eco-conscious journey beyond just Plastic Free July,” Priyaa told Bernama.
While reminiscing the sweet memories she had during her year-long journey championing the title as Mrs Malaysia World, she said that she had very limited knowledge on Plastic-free July in 2020. She then realized the efforts that were put into the campaign to shed some light on plastic pollution was positively regarded by the community and made an impact to the environment.
“I spent a lot of time reading and watching documentaries on various topics from waste disposal to livestock farming for commercial use to enhance my knowledge on zero-waste lifestyle and sustainable living.
“Along the way, I decided to become a vegetarian, as I wanted to limit my negative impact on our environment and contribute to preserving the natural resources on our planet,” said Priyaa who also has a hand in entrepreneurship.
Striving to make an impact to the environment, bull eyeing on plastic waste, Priyaa has partnered up with a friend to launch a local business called EcoQueen to educate people, businesses and communities on the importance of sustainable living.
She said EcoQueen will be a central marketplace which brings together local sustainable and conscious products all under one roof, making it easier for online shoppers.
“Online shoppers can shop for personal care, beauty and lifestyle products on this platform, while learning about making better choices and taking small steps to save the planet on EcoQueen’s blog site,” she added.
