We all love being well groomed and looking our best, but there are certain things that come with repercussions you will only experience much later. Take acrylic and gel nails for instance. According to the British Association of Dermatologists (BAD), the chemicals contained in the nail enhancements are causing an allergy epidemic.

About 2.4% of women are allergic to these chemicals, known as methacrylates, which may cause the nails to loosen or the skin to develop a severe rash. The worst part is that this reaction can spread to whatever part of the body the nails comes into contact with, and this could be the eyelids, face and even the genitals.

Worse can happen should the professional technicians at the salons are poorly trained or when at-home kits are used without professional assistance. The truth of the matter is that many women remain undiagnosed as they do not link the symptoms to their nails.

While the percentage of women affected by the chemicals may be insignificant to you, these nail enhancements can permanently damage nails over time. And in a video, YouTuber Tina Yong perfectly demonstrates the negative effects as she examines her fingernails under a microscope.. If that doesn’t scare you, we don’t know what will!
