“Colour block” your home!

There’s something magical about “colour blocking” and the way it makes us feel all fuzzy inside, like knowing a secret that’s bursting to come out, kind of like wearing lingerie except that you don’t have to hide it.

“Colour blocking” is a trend that shouldn’t just be limited to fashion but also other aspects of life such as food, our choice of cars and yes, interior design. Design experts say that you should choose one main colour and two other colours that are in the same family chart but really, who’s to say what’s right or wrong as long as it makes you happy? Of course some colours are a total mismatch and can have ghastly results if you’re not careful.

“Colour blocking” is an interesting way to express yourself and to emphasize the way colours interact with one another. Choose colours that are bold and bright yet attractive without being too overpowering. If you find striking colours visually disturbing, add some neutrals or pastels to the combination.

It’s not just the colours you choose to paint your walls with but also the furniture, curtains and decorations. The next time you’re shopping for pillows, sofas and carpets, avoid the browns and go for a combination of colours. Be sure to plan the layout of your room or else your rooms may look haphazardly decorated.

There’s no limit as to how many colours you can use when it comes to colorblocking. You don’t have to paint your wall different colours but you can hang different coloured photo frames, stack multicolored pillows on your sofa.

Take that trip down to Lorenzo, Houz Depot or Ikea today and fill up your cart! It’s a great activity to involve your family with and everyone will look forward to coming home after a long day at work and school.

Oh, and the compliments will just keep coming, just you wait and see!
