Many hotels around the globe claim to be family-friendly but often fall short. The fact of the matter is that there is so much more to it than having a children’s pool or providing an extra bed at no charge. And fortunately, DoubleTree Resort By Hilton Penang did not disappoint in that aspect as we have experienced during our recent two-night stay there.
We’re happy to report that the four-month old property, which also marks the arrival of the first ever DoubleTree Resort within Malaysia, doesn’t just have well-appointed guest rooms for travellers of sorts. Whether you are on a romantic vacation with your significant other or a family holiday, the property caters accordingly and meticulously.
Here are five ways we are convinced DoubleTree Resort by Hilton Penang makes an ideal family-friendly destination:
1. Signature chocolate chip cookie
The DoubleTree brand by Hilton is known for its signature chocolate chip cookie that is baked fresh daily, and no matter where you are in the world, its delectable flavour and lightly gooey texture remains the same. Though served upon arrival at check-in, guests can always ask for an extra one or two at any time. The hotel lobby always has these in stock in a warmer, which will leave the kids, and adults, very happy.
Located on site, this 9,000 square foot exhibit doesn’t just house Malaysia’s largest collection of teddy bears from various eras. It also offers an educational insight into the beginnings of Penang and its eccentricities, as well as the Pearl of the Orient’s culture and heritage. Hotel guests are entitled to discounts off ticket prices, and to be very frank, even we enjoyed the museum as adults. The attention to detail is just unmissable.
3. Kids pool and wet play area
You may argue that most major hotels have swimming pools, so what makes this one so special? Besides the children’s pool, there is an additional wet play area complete with shallow water, a slide, sprinklers and more to keep the young ones entertained.. or shall we say, tire them out. Whether you are taking a dip in the adult pool or getting your tan on from the sun beds, it will be convenient to watch over the safety of your juniors.
4. Kids Club
Should you wish to attend a child-free wedding at one of the hotel’s many function rooms or ditch the kids for a rejuvenating full-body massage at The Spa, the Kids Club will be the answer to your prayers. Not only is there adult supervision, there are various activities for the children ranging from zumba to arts and crafts lined up all the way from 10am to 8pm. If there is an event held at the hotel which runs later than the stipulated opening hours, exceptions can be made. We checked!
5. Junior section at Makan Kitchen
Children are temperamental and can occasionally be fussy as far as food is concerned. Thankfully, there is a dedicated Junior section at the hotel’s all-day dining restaurant Makan Kitchen. Aside from the kid-friendly offerings, the particular area is also built at the appropriate height for children. This doesn’t just make their dining experience extra fun, it also empowers them to make their own food choices and decisions. It’s really in the little things.
6. The Food Store
What’s as bad as having misbehaving little ones? Grumpy children as a result of feeling overly peckish in between proper meal times. No matter what time of day it is, The Food Store will be open at you and your children’s disposal. On top of teh tarik, coffee, tea and juice, there are various snacks, candy, freshly baked pastries, sandwiches and more. Either opt to dine there, or store your purchases conveniently in the in-room refrigerator for later.
