Directed by Danny Baron, Basmati Blues is a musical comedy which follows a sheltered but genius young scientist, Linda Watt (Academy Award-winner Brie Larson), who gets sent to India by her CEO (Donald Sutherland) to sell a genetically modified rice she’s created, completely unaware that it has the potential to destroy the Indian farmers.
Upon arriving, she has an overwhelming culture shock by the chaos of India. Meanwhile, she meets a rebellious college student who had to drop out due to lack of funds, Rajit (Utkarsh Ambudkar), who she starts falling for before he opens her eyes to reveal that she has unknowingly become part of a destructive plan.
The film also features the vibrant colours and rhythms of some of the most picturesque destinations in India and showcases original songs written just for the film by artists Pearl Jam, Sugarland, Goldspot, Dave Baerwald, and Sonu Nigam. Basmati Blues premieres in Malaysian cinemas on April 5th 2018.
