It’s unlike Katy Perry to have a filter, but that’s exactly what we adore so much about her. The “Swish Swish” songbird’s fearlessly herself and has never been afraid to push the envelope when it comes to being vocal. And in her latest interview with Refinery29, she tells it like it is.
On trends, she unabashedly said, “Like, remember when Pharrell wore that hat and everyone was like, Whaaat? We all did that emoji with the hand on the chin, but it’s the people that dare to suck that start the trends. Trying a new haircut or beauty regimen or style, that’s just fun. It keeps me interested.”
When pressed about plastic surgery rumours, the singer insisted, “I haven’t had any.” She added, “I’ve done lasers and got [filler] injections under my eyes for the hollowing — which I’d recommend for everyone who wants a solution for their dark circles — but all of my assets are real. People tend to think they are fake, but it doesn’t really matter.”
But of course, she places no judgement, “We’re getting away from that negative stigma about physical alterations. Of course, always be your authentic self — but if someone wants a nose job that makes them feel better, and they love their profile more because of it, it’s like ‘Go ahead!’ Do whatever makes you feel better about yourself. Stay in therapy, but get it, girl.”
And on the harrowing effects of social media, she explains, “A lot of us are living for that picture, and then the currency is the like.” Finally she adds, “… We buy clothing and products or pose a certain way or go to an event to get a picture – it’s not good for us as a society. I think it’s actually the decline of civilisation if we’re going extreme about it..”
“We have to find a balance, and I’m trying to find my own personal balance with it because I’m just as much a victim as everybody else.” Thanks for the reality check, Katy Perry.
