Is yet another Angel following the footsteps of Alessandra Ambrosio to retire from the runways of the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show? Victoria’s Secret longest running model, Adriana Lima recently took to social media to express her desire to make a change on unreasonable beauty standards imposed on women by the society and social media.
Adriana confessed in a long Instagram post that as a supermodel, her job puts her under huge pressure to look certain ways and growing tired of that, the Brazilian model cum actress explained, “We as women can’t be continuing living in a world with such superficial values, it’s not fair for us.”
Eager to make a change, the mother of two announced her decision to make things change, starting from herself as she stated, “I will not take off my clothes anymore for a empty cause”. Claiming that she will be more selective of her future jobs, she wrote, “Even though I have done many of this type, something had changed in me.”
It all started when Adriana was approached by a friend who felt insecure over how she looked and the ‘2017 most valuable Victoria’s Secret Angel‘ came to a realisation, “Majority of women probably wake up every morning trying to fit in a stereotype that society, social media, fashion or etc imposed,” she noted, adding, “It’s physically and mentally not healthy.”
The post garnered almost 80,000 likes in a day and although some criticised the Victoria’s Secret model for being a “hypocrite”, most fans were really supportive of her decision and are sad to see her leave. Aww, Adriana Lima is a true angel indeed! <3
