In an effort to look for its own Games of Thrones-like TV show that can rule them all, Amazon Studios is bringing the classic Lord of the Rings fantasy novel series by J.R.R. Tolkien to the small screen.
The e-commerce giant revealed that it has acquired the global television rights to The Lord of the Rings, and its entertainment studio is already committed to produce a “multi-season” TV series based on the books for Amazon Prime subscribers, with the potential for an additional spin-off series.

The financial terms and series release timing are not yet disclosed, although Amazon paid close to $250 million (RM1,048,124,996) just for the rights without any production costs. Amazon did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the price.
Meanwhile, earlier reports said Amazon and Apple were bidding for the “James Bond” franchise, along with traditional entertainment companies.
