Review: Group Vacays Are A Breeze At Resorts World Genting’s Hotel On The Park

For most, Genting Highlands serves as a quick and cool reprieve away from the bustling and humid Kuala Lumpur.  The Theme Park Hotel in Resorts World Genting in particular holds nostalgic memories for the generations of guests who have stayed at the hotel and enjoyed its proximity to Malaysia’s only mountaintop amusement park.

Since the closure of the theme park in 2013, the Theme Park Hotel (established in the ’70s) closed its doors as well, but only to re-emerge as a new creative hotel expansion within the gleaming records of Resorts World Genting -Hotel On The Park.

“It’s an old structure, based on a boxy, old school, industrial design. We wanted something exciting, new and different,” said Dato Edward Holloway, Senior Vice President of Hotel Operations, Resorts World Genting. The hotel still retains the Theme Park Hotel’s 448 rooms and is out to be Genting’s latest exciting family hotel with rooms accommodating 4-6 people at affordable rates.

Walking through the lobby, you’d feel like you just walked right into a famed Lewis Carrol story – a pillar of whimsical giant tea cups, stacked all the way up to the ceiling greets guests upon entering the lobby, a giant bench for you to sit on while waiting for check-in and a bank of trick mirrors that underscores the sensation of falling into the rabbit hole ala Alice.

There are a lot of line art and cartoons around the property. The corridor linking the two wings of the hotel features a floor with a hopscotch pattern on it and a chic trick with the corridor lighting illuminates the space in a wash of coloured light. Room numbers are also hand painted on the floor in front of each room. “All this was designed to make it a fun hotel, a precursor to the excitement which waits at the Twentieth Century Fox World,” shared Dato Edward.

Expecting an influx of visitors when Twentieth Century Fox World Theme Park opens, Resorts World Genting doubled the capacity of the rooms by making the beds the highlight of the rooms. Most of the rooms have a built in, tatami-style raised platform with two queen sized beds and comfortably sleeps four guests. If you’re travelling with a disabled or wheelchair-bound guest, there’s even a special needs room available upon request – spacious and complete with an adjustable bed.

For the sixers room, a built-up bunk bed above the platform holds another queen sized mattress – and we’ve got a feeling that this would be a hit with the kids!

A grab and go F&B outlet, aptly named Eatopia is also located in the lobby of the family-oriented hotel. Find an assortment of baked goods, heat-and-go wraps or pastas, Malaysian staples and even a selection of healthy breakfasts like overnight oats, orchard bircher muesli and more.

Feel like doing a little shopping? The Genting Highlands Premium Outlets is just a cable car ride away! For an inimitable experience, hop on the Glass Floor Gondolas located at the Awana SkyWay for RM50 per person. If you’re up for a stunning spectacle, the SkySymphony winch installation at SkyAvenue is the only fixed kinetic ball installation in the world paired with coloured lights and an immersive ambience.

The SkySymphony has 3 different story line and starts from 10 am to 6 pm with every two-hours intervals. After 6 pm, the show will be available every hour until midnight.
