Listen up everyone, we have a new contender for mainstream song of the summer from Charli XCX — and it’s all about boys. The singer has pulled out the phonebook and enlisted just about every male musician on the planet for her subversive new music video straight out of a crush-fueled daydream, “Boys.”
Her latest music video is a star-studded, mesmerizing music video, something totally true to Charli’s signature vibe. She also directed the entire thing and wants everyone to know, “no boys were harmed in the making of this video.” Pretty good news since it features Joe gorging himself on a thick stack of pancakes and Cameron swinging around a chainsaw like NBD. (Please do not try this at home.)
The three-minute clip sees cameos from the likes of Riz Ahmed, Diplo, Joe Jonas, Mark Ronson, Stormzy, Mac DeMarco, Wiz Khalifa, Ty Dolla $ign, Charlie Puth, Kaytranada, Chromeo, Jack Antonoff, G-Eazy and Will.I.Am. There’s even a couple of local mates flying the flag, with Flume and Vance Joy both featuring in the video.
With a chorus that goes, “But I was busy thinking ’bout boys, boys, boys / I was busy dreaming of boys, boys, boys,” you wouldn’t expect anything less. And we’re also wondering if the lyrics, “I’m sorry that I missed your party, I wish I had a better excuse like I had to trash the hotel lobby,” is a reference back to her “trash the hotel” bridge in “Fancy.”
