While it’s true that the internet is still a mean and horrible place, there’s no denying that we’ve come a long way since the dawn of the thigh-gap obsession.

Everyone’s starting to acknowledge that each body is different and that’s okay. Case in point: the latest body-trend on Instagram that celebrates the “hip dip”.

The “hip dip” is a cute term for an indentation that may or may not exist between your hips and your thighs. Totally normal, except for the fact that women have been embarrassed about and trying to eliminate this natural shape. Personal trainer Kelly Bakewell wrote on Instagram, “I’ve had clients asking how to get rid of them. They are very normal!”

Since rounded-hip and hourglass bodies have been portrayed as ideal in the media as of late, women have gone to great and often dangerous (here’s looking at you, waist trainers) methods in an attempt to achieve the famed body shape.

It’s important to note that the hip dip is not only completely normal – it’s also something you can’t get rid off because essentially, it’s nothing more than the place where your femurs connect to your pelvis. So we’re glad that everyone’s celebrating their beautiful hip dips on Instagram today.
