Japanese Adults Are Getting Swaddled Like Babies For Therapy

This bizarre trend in Japan takes you right back to your mother’s womb, and yes, it’s just as odd as it sounds.

Otonamaki, which translates to “adult wrapping”, is a form of therapy used by new mothers to relieve the post-delivery stress.

How it works is that adults are wrapped from head to toe in a white fabric before being rocked back and forth. It is also believed to be able to cure post-labour aches and pains.

The process, which takes about 20 minutes per session, replicates the way children are swaddled at birth, and was devised by a Kyoto midwife.

We’re skeptical, but you know what they say – don’t knock it off until you try it. Perhaps the powers of healing from being swaddled like a newborn is real..
