Our scalps need just as much the attention as our faces do, and dermatologist Dr. Francesca Fusco at Wexler Dermatology has highlighted the need to exfoliate our scalps. Yeap, exfoliating.

Dead skin cells rarely get buffed away, even through shampooing, and not only are scalp scrubs difficult to hunt down, they can be pretty expensive. Well, here’s a hair hack:

“Adding a tablespoon of sugar to a dollop of shampoo will gently exfoliate the scalp and easily dissolve and rinse out without leaving any residue on hair,” details Dr. Fusco.

That way, you can get rid of gunk more efficiently, and allow your conditioner to penetrate deeper. Think cleaner scalp and enhanced moisture!

And as for how often you need to do it, one scrub between 3 to 5 washes should be good. 😉
