Zooey Deschanel is popular for portraying Manic Pixie Dream Girl (MPDG) characters alongside other TV characters played by Natalie Portman (Garden State), Kirsten Dunst (Elizabethtown), Audrey Hepburn (Breakfast at Tiffany’s) who are labelled as such because of their eccentric personality quirks and are unabashedly girlish. Zooey became a household name after her role in the 2010 sleeper indie hit “500 Days of Summer” (also starring heartthrob Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and she is the reason that our obsession with all thing quirky, vintage and cute hit an all time high.
The recently separated 29 year old’s star has been shining brightly with her role as Jess Day in Fox’s new hit series New Girl. Zooey plays Jess, a teacher who moves in with three male roommates whom she found on Craigslist after discovering that her boyfriend was cheating on her. The characters grow on you and even though female presence on the show is limited (unlike shows like Gossip Girl or Desperate Housewives), we found ourselves lusting over Jess’ adorable and unique outfits that consist of mostly bright colors, bold patterns with a large smattering of vintage goodness.
If you’re looking to steal her look, look no further for inspiration!
The first thing you should know about Jess is that her wardrobe consists of all colors of the rainbow, no, make that all colors in a box of Crayola. Her outfits reflect her personality to a T and she also wears plenty of bold, unique patterns and blouses.
We love her high-waisted skater and lantern cutting skirts which look youthful and flirty but she always pairs them with tights for modesty purposes. Wear these skirts with poofy short sleeved blouses and channel your inner schoolgirl!
Jess is a flat shoes kind of girl and in the mere 8 episodes of the first season, we’ve seen her own comfy flats of almost every color imaginable. The only times we’ve seen her wear heels were during the wedding episode and whenever she goes out for dates.
We love how Jess’ dresses are so unorthodox and fun. Instead of the “Little Black Dress” (LBD), Jess goes for red instead and she’s worn quite already. We hardly see Jess in black but this fitting cap sleeved black number went really well with her black hair!
Our favourite housemate is also a big fan of hair accessories that go with her big wavy hair and cutesy bangs. Whenever she’s at home or school where she teaches, she opts to wear glasses instead of contacts. Your eyes will thank you for it because long hours in contact lenses will dry out your eyes!
We look forward to see more fashion ideas from New Girl because frankly we dig what we see and love how her styles are totally wearable in our weather. Hopefully Jess will inspire you to pick up more colors the next time you go shopping for clothes, remember the pumps and tights as well!
