Last weekend, Damar Wulan came across an odd incident at the Pendang Toll Plaza. Wulan, who traveled from Gurun, got tired and took a half an hour rest at the Gurun RnR, only to find out he had to pay a fine for staying there too long.
On top of the original toll fee of RM3, Wulan was urged to pay another RM6.40 as a penalty because he exceeded more than 1 hour 50 minutes at the RnR area. According to PLUS, this system has been implemented since 2005 to prevent any road fraudulent issues.
Infuriated, Damar channeled his dissatisfaction on Facebook. The post has become viral since.
Damar contacted PLUS representatives, but has yet to receive any positive response. He told PLUS that he was feeling very exhausted and needed to rest before he continued with his journey, hence why he was there for almost two hours.
His answer was not considered legitimate as there are no hotels around the rest area, thus, drivers have to obey to the highway rules.
This is kind of absurd and truth be told, we’ve never encountered this rule before. If that’s the case, there should be signboards put up reminding road users of the rest time limit at RnR areas.
What say you, is this acceptable?
