One of Malaysia’s favourite water theme park, Bukit Merah Laketown Resort has been closed down due to reports of Rotavirus outbreak. This contagious virus can cause gastroenteritis, a disease which may lead to death–usually infected by toddlers and infants.
Three cases of the virus infection were detected in Kedah, where the victims (all children) fell ill after visiting Bukit Merah Laketown Resort on 24 September, last Saturday.
The incident is still being investigated by the authorities. Meanwhile, the resort management will be visiting the victims soon to discuss actions needed to be taken if the virus truly originated from the water theme park.
We urge parents with young children especially to be wary of other contaminated water-related infections.
