We’re all for the idea, but with so many crisis going on, is this necessary for Malaysia?

Datuk Seri Najib Razak just launched an urban rainforest park project with a total cost of RM650 million, hoping it would be as iconic a symbol for Kuala Lumpur, just like London and New York’s public parks.

He says the government aspires to boost Kuala Lumpur into more than a centre of economic progress and into a world-class, liveable city. The project, called Taman Tugu, will bear the Kuala Lumpur’s status as a global city.

The park is expected to be completed by mid-2018 and it will be a mini tropical forest with an expected 6,000 trees spanning across 66 acres of land in the heart of the city. An artist’s impression reveals a jogging and walking trail around a lake.

Taman Tugu will also see the regeneration of about 1,000 trees in the existing forest area of Tugu Negara or the National Monument, as well as the planting of 5,000 more trees.

According to the PM, Taman Tugu will showcase world-class facilities revolving the environment, recreation and learning, including canopy walks and zip lines, water play area, camping site, paths for jogging, walking and cycling, food and beverage stalls, and more.

The park will also be linked seamlessly to the KL Sentral transport hub through walkways cutting through a nearby park and museum.

Here’s the official website for Taman Tugu.
