In light of the recent zika virus case in Malaysia involving a woman from Klang, this may pique your interest..
According to a study, Victoria’s Secret’s popular Bombshell fragrance is able to repel mosquitoes for up to two hours once it is spritzed on.
While the fragrance doesn’t contain Deet, which is a active ingredient used in most insect repellants in the market, the fragrance is found to be more effective than several organic mosquito repellants in the market.
The fragrance was a completely random pick by the team of researchers, but the results turned out to be highly surprising. Since it smells sweet with floral and fruity notes, the researchers thought mosquitoes would be attracted to the fragrance. Instead, the bugs were repelled by it.
While we wouldn’t rushing out the door to get our hands on a bottle of Bombshell fragrance seeing that it costs way more than a regular bottle of mosquito repellant, it’s good to know that we have the option to smell good and repel mosquitoes at the same time.
In all seriousness, we suggest taking precautionary measures to prevent getting infected by zika as a second victim in Malaysia has just been identified. He is a 61-year-old male from Likas, Sabah.
It is believed to be the first locally-transmitted zika infection in the country.
