In the spirit of diversity, Astro’s National Geographic Channel will air a series of specially curated programmes revolving around Peranakan culture this July and August.
The programme, ‘A Peranakan Heritage’ will debut on Astro Channel 553 or 575 HD, with programmes like: In Search of the Straits Born with Julian Davison, where historian and anthropologist Julian Davison explores the origin of the Straits Born in South East Asia; and Gok’s Chinese Takeaway, Malaysia, featuring British fashion stylist, TV presenter and Chinese cookery writer, Gok Wan, exploring Peranakan food.
In addition to that, the channel will also air “Portraits of the Peranakan with Sherman Ong”, each week covering a facet of Peranakan culture. Sherman is renowned filmmaker, photographer and visual artist.
National Geographic Channel also wants to provide an immersive learning experience for the audience, so they’re giving away a cultural stay at Malacca, where winners can visit key locations featured in “A Peranakan Heritage” in a specially curated tour.
