According to Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) CEO Datuk Yasmin Mahmood, coding will officially be added to the syllabuses of national schools in Malaysia beginning next year.
Computer coding will be taught as part of a computer science subject, and will be incorporated into the practice of teaching, like maths and science.
A digital maker movement will be launched next month to embed coding as an official curriculum in schools, from standard three onwards. It is an initiative to encourage school-going children to participate as makers of technology.
It has been reported that the program has been ongoing since last year in 22 schools. It will be a part of the Primary School Standard Curriculum (KSSR) and Secondary School Standard Curriculum (KSSM) that will be carried out next year.
The full details of the programme will only be announced in August and Malaysia will be one of the first few countries around the globe that will be doing this.
What do you think? Will this burden the students even more on top of their studies?
