Have you ever bought a knock-off product that lasted or functioned just as well as the original would?

Alibaba’s founder Jack Ma has boldly claimed that Chinese made goods are actually way better than the original brands they imitate. This further complicates the effort to root out the fakes on the country’s largest online shopping portal.

“The problem is that the fake products today, they make better quality, better price than the real product, than the real names,” he said at Alibaba’s investor’s day on Tuesday.

“They’re the exact factories, the exact raw materials, but they do not use that name,” he added.

Chinese factory have been churning out products for big name companies at a low cost. But with the rise many e-commerce platforms, the big brands are finding it difficult to market their goods online to their customers.

Alibaba has been accused of making knock-off goods very easily available to consumers, and thus changing the game. It handles more e-commerce than Amazon and eBay combined, and expects to reach 423 million online shoppers around the world this year.
