Take note!

Motorists who try to cheat the road by utilising the emergency lanes will be charged in court under Section 53 of the Road Transport Act 1957, which carries a maximum fine of RM2,000 or six months in jail, or both.

The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has recorded 91 vehicles that blocked the way of an ambulance along an emergency lane heading to an accident scene along the North South Expressway recently and seven of them have been identified. Those identified will be asked to assist in investigations for the incident which occurred on May 22.

It took the said ambulance an hour before reaching the accident scene, and both the motorcyclists involved died on the spot.

The abuse of emergency lanes has become out of hand and a compound isn’t enough to deter it, hence such stern action is deemed necessary.
