What do you do when a city is constantly plagued with flash foods? Build retention ponds, apparently.
The Malay Mail has reported that FT Minister, Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor is seeking at least RM40 million to build two retention ponds to fix flooding problems in Kuala Lumpur. The two retention ponds will be built along Pantai Dalam and Jalan Duta.
Tengku Adnan went on to explain that a muddy rentention pond at Universiti Malaya and drains that could not cope with heavy rainfall were responsible for the floods.
The FT minister has also laid out an action plan, where the first step is for DBKL to obtain permission from Universiti Malaya to clear out the mud from the pond to ensure it functions properly.
He will also see that the cleaning of drains is changed to once a week, instead of once a month.
