As Kuala Lumpur City Hall pursues its green city initiative, it has been decided that Bukit Bintang will become the second area in Kuala Lumpur to be free of polystyrene food containers. This will be implemented by the end of 2016.
Last year in July, Dataran Merdeka was declared a prohibited area for polystyrene food containers.
These non-biodegradable polystyrene food packs complicate the management of solid waste and contributes to the deterioration of the environment.
The Kuala Lumpur City Hall is currently working with other agencies to organise ‘Reduce, Reuse and Recycle’ (3R) programmes to increase awareness and educate the public.
