To set the record straight, I wouldn’t have heard of Oriental Residence Bangkok if I wasn’t so emotionally consumed by social media.
With an overwhelming urge to explore the world and the pathetic state of my bank account in contrast, following a legion of fashion and travel bloggers on Instagram, who so often make me feel envious with postcard-like snapshots from around the globe, somehow makes me feel elated.
Not one, not two, but a big handful of these online personalities seem to frequent Oriental Residence Bangkok during their visits to the vivacious city, and I knew I had to do the same someday. It was their stunning photos of the hotel’s exquisite vicinity that originally piqued my interest, and I wasn’t disappointed.
Tucked along Witthayu Road or Wireless Road if you want to be fancy, the building is smacked right in the business and embassy district in Lumpini amidst towering buildings, serviced apartments and bustling roads. As soon as I pushed open the sizeable doors and walked in, the chaos outside gave way to its indisputable modern elegance and opulence.
There’s no wondering why this property is one of the most geotagged hotels in Bangkok. It was as if I had stepped into a set of an interior design magazine shoot; there were clean white walls complemented with white shutters that magnified the expanse of the welcoming lobby, giant vases filled with vibrant exotic flowers that transformed the energy in the room, and plush sofas for lounging. It was a pleasant surprise stacked up against the green foliage surrounding the building.
In under 10 minutes that included check-in formalities, I was whisked away to my living space for the next three days – the 45-square metre Grand Deluxe that is in a class of its own. It was comfortably spacious and lavish would be inadequate to detail it. The cream-coloured interior, contrasted by dark hardwood floors, that instantly extended a sense of serenity was decked in modern, custom-designed furniture with vintage-inspired touches.
Divided into a fully-equipped kitchen, dining area with a massive couch, cosy bedroom and bathroom, the comforts of the Grand Deluxe included a custom mattress, PC connection point, personal safe, fully stocked minibar, an LED television, radio, and more. The large floor-to-ceiling window beside my bed framed the view of this prime area of Bangkok and Lumpini Park perfectly.
The luxury didn’t stop there. The massive bathroom came with a posh bathtub and separate shower, as well as an L-shaped doorless walk-in closet. It was definitely fit for a queen! Oriental Residence Bangkok could ideally be the holiday makers’ choice for long term stays as the kitchen – complete with pots and pans, cutlery, an induction cooker with two hobs, a microwave oven and hood – is fully functional.
Having also established a substantial reputation in Bangkok is the property’s in-house café-restaurant, Café Claire. Offering gourmet Thai and international comfort food, this classy eatery boasts a Parisian flair with its bistro-style booth seating, stained mirrored walls and intimate brassy drop sphere lamps, exuding the charm and joie de vivre of a chic French kitchen.
I was told that Café Claire offered different menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with an accompanying wine and cocktail list, and to be completely honest, I’d enjoy dining in this alluring café-restaurant all day everyday. It is also a quintessential spot to indulge in traditional afternoon tea, served with patisserie items and a tea menu from TWG.
This swanky 32-storey building isn’t without its fun elements. Perched on the 4th floor of Oriental Residence Bangkok is the Play Deck flanked by a marble-clad open air lounging area, poolside bar, a bespoke 24-hour fitness centre and a 20-metre mosaic swimming pool. For complete isolation and relaxation, the cushy four-post cabanas and rattan pods would be your best bet.
I felt right at home at Oriental Residence Bangkok, thanks to the effervescent hospitality, totally Instagrammable interior and homey amenities. It’s safe to say that I didn’t miss out on the opportunity of posing at every gorgeous little nook and cranny of its vicinity for enviable shots on Instagram. Heck, with a property this ravishing, I’m not even embarrassed to admit it.
Oriental Residence Bangkok is located about a 10-minute walk from the Phloen Chit BTS station. The property also provides an hourly shuttle that takes guests back and forth to the said BTS station. There is also a morning market right opposite the property, offering an endless array of street food, clothing, and more.
