Experts Say You Shouldn’t Hug Your Dog & Here’s Why

Humans are natural huggers and if you have dogs, you’re probably enjoy a cuddle sesh with your furry friend. To be honest, who doesn’t?!

However, some experts have suggested that we step away. Here’s why:

A recent study published by Psychology Today examined photos of dogs and their humans, and found that 82% of dogs display obvious signs of anxiety when hugged: flattened ears, heads turned away, and whites of the eyes showing. Yes, they are loyal, loving dogs, but they were clearly distressed.

The reason is fairly simple. When you hug your dog, they can’t run and you thwart their freedom instinct. It’s similar to when someone holds your arms behind your back. It doesn’t hurt you, but you don’t exactly feel in control.

We say, take this with a grain of salt though.. We don’t know about you, but we ain’t giving up on those cuddles just yet.
