The M’sian government has warned that the dry and hot spell may stretch till September, causing depleting water reserves, an increasing number of forest fires, and deteriorating haze.
Due to the changing Southwest monsoon winds, the heat will most likely prevail for the next five months. Cloud seeding efforts have been ongoing in various states, and many dams in Malaysia have recorded water levels below 50%.
Aside from that, rivers and lakes like Bukit Merah in Kerian, Perak and Sungai Pinang in George Town, Penang, have nearly completely dried up. To make things worse, the air quality has worsened in the Klang Valley and the Air Pollutant Index readings recorded as of late are poor.
An environmental expert claimed that the weather could hit 40°C if the heatwave continues. With this, we advise all of you to stay hydrated at all times and avoid participating in vigorous activities outside when the sunlight is at its peak.
