Snapchat just dug its own grave for enabling a digital blackface after a Bob Marley filter was rolled out for 4/20. The filter imposes Marley’s face over the users.
Defending the filter, Snapchat claimed that it worked with the Marley Estate to develop the filter as a way to honour his work and achievements.
“The lens we launched today was created in partnership with the Bob Marley Estate, and gives people a new way to share their appreciation for Bob Marley and his music,” the release reads. “Millions of Snapchatters have enjoyed Bob Marley’s music, and we respect his life and achievements.”
This isn’t cool, Snapchat! :/
