The peak of her career came in the 1990s and even until today, she’s still known as one of the world’s most successful models. In 2002, she was quoted by Forbes to have an estimated net worth of USD55 million – that’s about RM170 million! But did you know that Claudia Schiffer was an alarmingly antisocial (read: shy) girl growing up? And it was all thanks to her height, which made her tower over all her peers.
Little did she know that she has her height to thank for because all 5’11” of her is the very reason why she achieved her supermodel status soon after completing her education. Karl Lagerfeld himself personally picked her Briggite Bardot-like blonde hair, blue eyes, and height to eventually become the face of Chanel.
She was his muse.
Today, she still reigns as one of the world’s first Victoria’s Secret models. As a matter of fact, in 1996, she was chosen to wear the first ever Victoria’s Secret “Fantasy Bra”.
Valued at USD1 million (RM3.1 million), the bra featured more than 100 carats of diamonds and a variety of semi-precious gems. It was, of course, aptly named the “Million Dollar Miracle Bra”.
It was Claudia who singlehandedly created the sense of yearning and belonging in all other “junior models” who all wanted just one thing – to be like her.
But for Claudia Schiffer, she found her true sense of belonging in another form altogether. Some call it a “higher level of being a woman”, we call it motherhood. In 2002, she welcomed her first child, Caspar Matthew Drummond. A year later, a daughter named Clementine Drummond and just last year, Cosima Violet.
What? You didn’t know that the gorgeous blonde bombshell is a mother of three?
We’ll let her tell you all about motherhood herself and how it has changed her tremendously.
“You know, for a long time now I’ve always been a workaholic. All I ever do is work, work, and work every single day without skipping a beat. I traveled around the world, I worked weekends, I never took one not even one second off.”
“When I finally got married and when I got pregnant with Caspar, I figured you know what, this is important. I’m not going to work weekends any more. I became more careful. When it comes to modeling, it’s fine because you can do one day here and two days there and you’re never really gone for long.”
“I love being pregnant because really, you can do whatever you want. You don’t feel guilty. I used to feel guilty about having a day off, believe it or not! But something really strange happened to me. Pregnancy changed my life.”
\
“Before my pregnancies, I was someone who had to constantly watch their weight. When I was pregnant, however, I had the oddest cravings! I had such a big craving for curry during my first pregnancy. The second pregnancy I wanted red wine, which is very strange because I hardly drink.”
“Motherhood really is one of the best moments in a woman’s life and my kids are now my main focus in life. My career is not even half as important as I once thought it was because all I care about is the wellbeing and the health of my children. I want to be involved in their growing up and in everything that they do. It’s beautiful.”
Well, looks like the world-famous Claudia Schiffer has finally found her belonging. And it certainly didn’t take signing the most lucrative modeling deal in the world or appearing in 500 more magazine covers to get her there.
