Think you can make it far if you were just a tad prettier? Charlize Theron says NO.
The Oscar-winning actress tells GQ that being a “gorgeous” actress leads to typecasting, and is actually a hindrance for getting real, dramatic roles.
“How many roles are out there for the gorgeous, f*cking gown-wearing eight-foot model? When meaty roles come through, I’ve been in the room and pretty people get turned away first.”she said. The actress went on to say that jobs that actually carry weight go to people who are physically right for them.
Social media users took to Twitter to give her a piece of their minds.
However, she was right about the double standard that men and women face in the industry. “We live in a society where women wilt and men age like fine wine,” she said. Remember when Susan Sarandon wore a low-cut top to the Screen Actors Guild Awards and offended everyone on the planet?
But come on Charlize, after that ground-breaking role in Mad Max where you were firing from a tank while sporting a gritty buzz-cut, we don’t think anyone doubts your ability to pull off a badass role.
