Yikes!
Passengers on Malaysian Airlines flight MH002 from KL International Airport (KLIA) to Heathrow, London, were stuck in a plane for five hours as it sat in Manchester Airport.
MH002 took off from KLIA at about 11.47pm on Sunday and was supposed to arrive at Heathrow at 1pm on Monday. Due to strong winds from Storm Katie, the plane was diverted to Manchester Airport. Following the three-hour delay due to the diversion, passengers were still forced to stay in the plane as there was a death of one passenger on the plane.
Many passengers on the flight took to Twitter to vent their frustrations, saying that this is “easily the most horrific airline experience” she’s ever had. They also struggled with no food, and lack of proper communication from the airline.
MAS later apologised in a statement: “In the interest of safety due to adverse weather and closure of Heathrow Airport, the flight was diverted to Manchester.”
“Unrelated and unfortunately, we regret that a passenger on board passed away during the flight before arrival in the UK.”
“This resulted in a further delay to await the arrival and inspection by the relevant authorities in Manchester. The aircraft was also quarantined as per regulatory requirements.”
MAS also mentioned due to regulatory compliance, it couldn’t to proceed with journeying to London despite the improved weather and reopening of Heathrow Airport. “After completion of the aircraft inspection, our crew had exhausted their duty time limitation to conduct a safe flight back to London,” it said.
Thank goodness we were NOT on that flight. :/
