If you’ve been on Instagram the past couple days, you might have noticed that many people have posted up prompts to encourage you to turn on post notifications for their feed. Well, why?
Instagram is changing, and the social media platform is apparently going to bubble images it thinks you want to see up above the images presented in chronological order. Instagram is currently testing this function before rolling it out to all of its users. What this means is that Instagram is going to highlight the posts that have more interaction, aka the popular ones.
The new Instagram order will be “based on the likelihood you’ll be interested in the content, your relationship with the person posting, and the timeliness of the post.” Now, for your photos to be seen, you’d need an active network of followers that is invested in your content. If not, your posts will get seen less, and this may generate less likes.
With this, Instagram is also monetising its feed, allowing brands to pay for top shelf placement on users’ feeds and ultimately, pushing our posts beneath.
By tapping the three dots on the right side of the photo, you will be able to turn on post notifications for a particular account if you’d like to get alerts when the said account posts a photo. We tried turning on post notifications for several accounts, and within half an hour, we were SO FREAKIN’ ANNOYED by all the notifications and phone vibrations we kept receiving. Imagine if all the people you’re following on Instagram posts at least two photos a day, and you’re following 1,000 people…
If not, you could try and master your poses in hopes of being ‘more popular’ on Instagram… Or you could just sell your soul to the Devil. Either way, we’re unhappy. Ugh.
