Do you have empty mason jars lying around your kitchen pantry? No idea what to do with ’em? Put them to use by making mason jar salad. Looks a little odd and your salad may be underdressed or soggy or messy but hear us out. Best part about this lil’ guy is that you can make a bunch of them at one go and it’ll stay fresh the entire week. A perfect go-to snack for someone who’s constantly on-the-go. With these simple steps, your salad will look and taste sublime. Not to mention you’ll be eating healthy! The key to a mason jar salad is layering.
Step 1: Start off with the dressing of your choice. You can go with from a simple vinaigrette to a chipotle dressing. Anything that you’re in the mood for.
Step 2: Add your base layer that won’t soak up all your dressing. Try chick peas, sautéd red bell peppers, tomatoes, carrots or pretty much anything that’s whole and solid.
Step 3: Continue layering your go-to snack with more healthy ingredients. Remember to pack the latter lightly otherwise it’s gonna be a mess when you eat it. Plus, it’ll make your salad last longer.
Step 4: Top it off with any choice of greens or cheese. Feta cheese always go well with salad. Adding greens at the top will keep your salad from getting dry. Nuts are also a good choice.
Pop on the lid, slide it in your chiller and you’re all set! If you want slip in some protein in your jar salad, it’s totally fine. But, make sure that jar with protein in consumed as soon as possible as you don’t want the other leafy greens to get soggy.
