Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahidi has announced that a total of 827, 921 Malaysians have been barred from leaving the leaving due to various offences.
A whopping 200,727 Malaysians are blacklisted due to bankruptcy, 118,892 people blacklisted for failing to pay their study loans, and a further 520 people are barred for security reasons.
Malaysians who are blacklisted are prohibited from leaving Malaysia unless they are given special permission to do so. As for PTPTN loan defaulters, they cannot leave the country unless a minimum payment is made.
To check whether you have been blacklisted or not, follow these steps:
1. Visit http://sspi2.imi.gov.my/
2. Enter your IC number in the field.
3. Click the “Semak” button.
4. View your status. If all is clear, it should say “tiada halangan” (no restriction).
