Bangkok, Thailand is indeed a shoppers paradise, but more than anything, it’s widely recognised as a popular food destination, satiating the appetites of foodies from around the world with an amazing array of delicious local and international offerings unlike anything else in the region.

1

Hence, we were ecstatic with good reason when we first heard that Bangkok’s Greyhound Cafe was about to be opened along Jalan Bukit Bintang. If you’re unfamiliar, Greyhound is Thailand’s acclaimed fashion and lifestyle cafe that’s now thoroughly evolved into a trendy restaurant featuring a distinct, stylish concept and a great variety of extraordinary food.

2

Offering patrons a wholesome dining experience evoking the senses of sight, sound and taste, Greyhound Cafe offers an innovative menu of Thai-Asian and international cuisine with intriguing selections. Some items are Greyhound’s play on popular culinary classics whereas some others are unique dishes that have been elevated from various travel experiences.

What we love about Greyhound is its forte in harmonising very traditional flavours with contemporary ideas, creating a lifestyle dining outlet that is fun and fresh for hip urbanites who appreciate the finer things in life. On top of that, social media addicts will instantly fall in love with Greyhound’s modern decor as every corner of its vicinity is Instagram-worthy.

4

During our first visit to Greyhound for its grand launch, we sampled some of Greyhound’s best-selling menu items and sure enough, we were not at all disappointed. Take note, and make sure you try some of these delights for yourselves!

5

Sandwich in a Bowl Salad (RM25) – Toasted chunks of bread, crisp lettuce, mushrooms and tuna are tossed in a Caesar dressing for this dish. It’s essentially Caesar salad with a cooler name, but it’s enjoyable nonetheless.

8

Greyhound Famous Fried Chicken Wings (RM18) – Marinated in fish sauce before being deep fried, these chicken wings are so insanely good and addictive, even two plates wouldn’t suffice. You must order this at Greyhound!

13

Salmon Sashimi in Spicy Hot Sauce (RM26) – This is such an appetising dish, thanks to the garlicky, spicy and tangy Thai sauce that coats the salmon slices. We’ve tried the same dish in Greyhound Bangkok and the Malaysian version is way less spicy.

15

Spicy Spaghetti Thai Style (RM29) – This Thai style spaghetti stir-fry comprises beef, chicken or seafood with chillies, fresh peppercorn and basil leaves. It’s a hearty and flavourful main that is worth trying.

6

Fried Tons of Crab Meat with Rice (RM55) – Notice how the name of the dish lists crab meat before the rice? Yeap, this fried rice is topped off with a lavish amount of fresh crab meat and every spoon we consumed tastes heavenly.

16

Tub Tim Krob Greyhound Style (RM16) – Greyhound’s take on the classic tub tim krob comes with coconut granita (coconut ice), water chestnut, coconut meat and coconut milk. This tub tim krob tastes good, but other desserts at Greyhound are better.

Sticky Rice Mango Parfait (RM18) – If you love mango sticky rice, this dessert is right up your alley. Greyhound has taken this sweet treat up a notch by adding coconut sherbet to the mango, sticky rice and coconut milk, creating a yummy medley of sweet, sour and savoury flavours.

7

Fresh Coconut Crepe Cake (RM22) – Light and thin crepes are layered with fresh cream and fresh coconut meat in between for a delicately stacked cake. We’ve never tried crepe cake with fresh coconut and this combination works surprisingly well.

11

Sea Salt Caramel Chocolate Cake (RM22) – This has got to be the highlight of our meal. Devil’s food cake is layered with chocolate fudge and sea salt caramel for an absolutely decadent treat. The sea salt caramel is so amazing; we literally licked everything off the spoon!

We’ve only visited Greyhound once, but we’re totally sold thanks to the quality of the food and cosy ambience. Albeit its slightly higher price point, Greyhound is truly an outstanding place to catch up with your friends for hours on end over good food and solid desserts. We’ll definitely be going back there very soon to try other items on its menu.
