Whatsapp just celebrated its seventh birthday alongside its success of having one billion users. However, the team just announced some unfortunate news; the app will soon cease service on all BlackBerry and Nokia devices running those companies’ operating systems.

This will also be applied for the BlackBerry 10. BlackBerry itself rejected the OS when building its latest flagship – the Android-powered Priv slider phone – so it should come as a surprise that major developers like the Facebook-owned WhatsApp are abandoning it as well.

This also affects Nokia’s low-end S40 and S60 Symbian platforms, as well as the older Android 2.2 and Windows Phone 7.1 operating systems. The Nokia S40 discontinuation will perhaps cause a little predicament for old Nokia users.
So, unless you upgrade your device to a newer Android, iPhone or Windows Phone, you won’t be able to use Whatsapp’s messaging service. What a bummer! :/
