After a successful event last year, it was only apt for them to return for the second time around with a giant, big bang! Malaysia’s Online Fashion Entrepreneurs’ Weekend (MOFEW) took place from the 11th to the 13th of November 2011 at Mid Valley Exhibition Centre (MVEC).
Not “just another flea market”, MOFEW 2011 embodied the essentials of online shopping, brought right to your doorstep (almost).
Due to the tricky cons of online shopping, women tend to stay away from virtual retail stores and blogshops. If we can help it, of course. But for three days only, MOFEW 2011 built a platform to showcase all of Malaysia’s budding businesses in once place. All 170 of them.
The event was support by our very own Malaysian supermodel’s “Amber Chia Academy”, FlyFM, Exabytes, and Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) Malaysia. But one main sponsor stole the limelight and brought mad shopaholics a brand new shopping experience.
Now, we all already know (don’t even deny it if you shop online lots!) that PayPal is the global leader in the safer, easier way to pay and get paid online. At MOFEW 2011 this year, PayPal came on board to offer a cashless shopping experience from our smartphones. Quite brilliant, might we say, because all we needed was a PayPal account, and all we had to do was scan QR codes to make our purchases.
When asked, Elias Ghanem, PayPal’s Managing Director and General Manager for South East Asia and India said, “We are proud to introduce an innovative mobile payment option for Malaysian shoppers at MOFEW. For the first time in Southeast Asia, shoppers can pay for their purchases at the fashion entrepreneur’s booth of their choice by scanning a QR code (quick response code) on their smartphone* and pay with PayPal in as little as two clicks!”
It also bodes well especially for shopaholics who lug around a huge wad of cash with them at shopping expeditions. Plus, at shopping events such as flea markets or MOFEW 2011, most likely the vendors wouldn’t be facilitated with credit card payment machines. And who hasn’t heard of the danger of being pickpocketed or have your purse dug out of your bag at jam-packed events, right?
So, with an iPhone or an Android, or even a tablet, with only a few touches and clicks, your purchase is made and you’re done! Really, the cashless shopping environment is a happy, stress-free and no-loss one. Well, no real loss unless if you go crazy shopping!
Brilliant, if we do say so ourselves. PayPal’s mobile purchasing truly did make MOFEW 2011 an interesting experience for both vendors and shoppers alike. Uh, it also made it easier for shoppers to go completely broke but nevertheless! Good call, PayPal.
