Mark Ruffalo clarifies in an interview with George Stephanopoulos that he never used the word “boycott”, he merely said that he and his wife may not attend the Oscars because of the white privilege racism. However, he also tweeted later that day that he will be attending the Oscars, but mostly in support of the victims of clergy Sexual Abuse and good journalism.

In another tweet, Ruffalo also expressed his support for the Oscar Ban movement, saying that “I do support the Oscar Ban movement’s position that the nominations do not reflect the diversity of our community.” The Hulk actor also added that “It isn’t just the Academy Awards. The entire American system is rife with white privilege racism. It goes into our justice system.”

Other A-Listers who have confirmed that they won’t be attending this year’s Oscars are Will Smith and his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, and director Spike Lee.

The hashtag #OscarsSoWhite, created last year, resurfaced online following the 2016 nominations.
