I’m not going to lie, there have been nights where I was so exhausted that I purposely fell asleep with my makeup on. Yes, I know it’s totally gross and super unhygienic but I was just too tired. Thankfully, I have kicked that bad habit after discovering just how damaging it can be to go to bed with your makeup on.
Here are 5 important reasons why you should make full use of that makeup remover before catching up on some snooze:
It will make you age quicker – This might get your attention: Did you know that your skin goes through a renewal process when you sleep? By going to sleep with your makeup on, you’re slowing down that process and the chemicals on your skin will interfere with the natural repair mechanism.
You can get pimples – Compared to most parts of your body, the skin on your face has a large number of pores on it. When you go to bed with makeup on, your pores end up getting blocked, which is not good for the skin at all as it needs to produce sebum. Sebum helps lubricate your skin and also get rid of dead skin cells and other gross pollutants. When the pores are blocked, the mixture of blocked sebum with chemicals as well as pollutants causes pimples!
Eye irritations or infections can happen – You don’t need a genius to tell you this. All the chemicals that are present in your eye makeup can cause allergic reactions, eye irritation and of course, infections, which you don’t really want. Always remember to clean the makeup off of your eyes properly and thoroughly.
Your pores get larger – Nobody wants large pores, they’re unsightly and more susceptible to infections. When your pores get clogged up with makeup and dirt, the pores on your skin becomes larger because it loses its elasticity. This is due to the fact that the skin is dry and isn’t able to produce collagen and to repair itself.
Your skin gets dry – One of the many bad things about sleeping with makeup on is the fact that your skin gets dry in time. The production of sebum slows down when your pores are blocked with leftover makeup and can eventually lead to dry skin. Nobody ever said that dry skin looks great, so remove your makeup to avoid getting wrinkles and dull-looking skin.
