To celebrate the Lunar New Year, KIP Hotel’s Executive Chef Simon Lee and his talented team of chefs have curated two 2016 Chinese New Year set menus that feature some signature Chinese New Year staples like yee sang, steamed fish and many others.
KIP Hotel’s Chinese New Year set menu will feature two exquisite nine-course dinner menus; with Set A priced at RM988 nett and Set Menu B priced at RM1188 nett, per table of 10 people. Upon purchase of 10 tables, KIP Hotel will offer a complimentary 11th table as well.
We were lucky enough to be able to sample one of KIP Hotel’s Chinese New Year set menus, and here are our thoughts! 😀
Salmon with Sliced Abalone Yee Sang – Usually, we’d get either salmon OR sliced abalone with our yee sang, but KIP Hotel’s version offers both. There were plenty of salmon and abalone slices to be shared amongst everyone!
Hot and Cold Combination Platter – The first thing that caught our eye was the playful use of gummies and assorted chips that make up the presentation of the platter. Our two favourite dishes were the spicy Japanese squid and the yam basket, which were great appetisers.
Sharks Fin with Dried Scallop Soup – This soup is made with mock sharks fin, and it was delicious. The soup was of the right consistency, and this savoury soup was generously loaded with dried scallop and sea cucumber.
Deep Fried Boneless Chicken with Mandarin Orange Sauce – Instead of regular orange, mandarin orange is used for the sauce, and it was distinctively unique. The sauce was sweet and very fragrant, complementing the chicken well.
Steamed Silver Cod Fillet Hong Kong Style – This was my favourite dish of the evening. Thee gravy was done just right, and the cod was silky smooth. Our only complaint is that the fillet was a little small for a table of 10, so nobody got second servings.
Kam Heong Ming Prawn – These kam heong prawns were worth getting our hands dirty for! They were spicy, savoury and had a smokey flavour that we really enjoyed.
Hoong Siew Chinese Cabbage with Dried Oysters, Sea Cucumber, Mushroom and Fatt Choy – We fancied the oysters, sea cucumber and mushrooms, but found that the sauce was a little too sweet for our liking.
Fried Rice with Scallops and Pine Nuts – Even though it is quite a simple dish, this fried rice was awesome! Simple, yet very satisfying.
Snow Fungus and Red Dates in Syrup & Sesame Lotus Balls – This was a nice end to our meal and we liked the sweet soup. However, the sesame lotus balls definitely stole the spotlight.
KIP Hotel’s Chinese New Year set menus will be available from January 16 2016 to February 7 2016.
