The smoking of electronic cigarettes or vaping has been forbidden by the National Fatwa Council.
The chairman of the council, Tan Sri Dr Abdul Shukor Husin, said that the decision was made considering all aspects, including shariah, as well as medical and scientific evidence, concluding that electronic cigarettes are wasteful and harmful to health.
He also added that health experts found that vape and electronic cigarettes do not help smokers quit smoking, citing that they contain a variety of toxic substances.
In line with this decision, Shukor suggested for other states to follow the decision.
